Nellis (2021)“The Color of Justice: Racial and Ethnic Disparity in State Prisons”
This report examines racial and ethnic disparities throughout the U.S. criminal legal system, including differences in imprisonment rates among racial groups. It highlights how historical and ongoing inequities have contributed to unequal experiences within the justice system and demonstrates the need for policies that address these disparities.
Free to Lead acknowledges that incarceration has not impacted all communities equally. Addressing systemic barriers requires listening to and empowering those most affected by these systems. This research reinforces the importance of justice-impacted voices in leadership, advocacy, and policy change.
